Sandrine Ramamonjisoa (*1997) studied jazz saxophone at the Nuremberg University of Music with Klaus Graf, Stefan Karl Schmid, Steffen Schorn, Sebastian Gille and Moritz Baumgärtner from 2019 until 2024. With long-time duo partner Paul Laga, they successfully took part in Jugend Jazzt and founded their own band project ‘Appaloosa’, in which they mainly play Sandrine’s compositions. With the band, they have already had an exclusive residency at the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt, won the international competition ‘Next Generation Women in Jazz virtuell’ and Sandrine was awarded the Jazz Prize of the City of Halle 2023. In addition to ‘Appaloosa’, Sandrine has been involved in various projects ranging from traditional jazz to pop and new music. Sandrine plays with musicians from Europe and Madagascar and moved back to Berlin in 2023. As part of the Händelfestspiele Halle 2024, Sandrine was commissioned as a composer for an evening programme. In the same year, they were selected to take part in the ‘Académie de Composition’ of the ‘Orchestre National de Jazz’ in Paris. Sandrine won the Inaugral Composer Clinic Studio Time Grant by ‘This Is A Movement‘.
